The harmonious alternation of long and short stones creates a unique and suggestive visual effect, which contributes to making Palazzo Pitti one of the most iconic monuments in the city. Legend has it that these stones were desired by Luca Pitti, the patron of the palace, to symbolize his power (the large stone) and the weakness of his adversaries (the small stone).
